Noma restaurant in Copenhagen has topped a list of the top 50 best restaurants in the world, retaining its place at number one for another year.
The list, compiled by Restaurant magazine, awarded the Danish restaurant the coveted prize in an awards ceremony which saw Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck come in at fifth place - down two places on the previous year.
The biggest news of the top 50 list was the absence of the Spanish El Bulli. A repeat winner in the past, the restaurant was removed from the list as chef Ferran Adrià's has chosen to close the restaurant later this year. Peter Walker writes:
"Spanish gastronomy remains prominent in the views of the 837 judges worldwide – a mixture of chefs, writers and restaurateurs – with second spot taken by El Celler de Can Roca, the three Michelin-starred Girona restaurant run by three brothers. Behind this was Mugaritz, in the Basque country."
So what kind of picture does the list paint for restaurants by country? We were curious so have gathered a quick summary from the top 50 list:
• France has the most number of restaurants in the list at eight but the USA follows closely behind with six and Spain with five
• The UK features with four restaurants on the best restaurant list; The Fat Duck, The Ledbury, St. John and Hibiscus. The Ledbury also came as the highest new entry at 34th place
• The highest climber was awarded to Nihonryori Ryugin in Japan. It managed to jump 28 places on the previous years list to make it to 20th best restaurant in the world
• Russia and Peru appeared in the list for the first time this year with Moscow's Vavravy and Astrid Y Gaston in Lima

The top 50 list can be found below alongside the ranking for 2010. Our spreadsheet also contains a list of those restaurants that have fallen off the list this year. What can you do with this data?
